Warning!
The first Playcast alpha 0.9.2 was released to test our revolutionary new Windows driver architecture and was associated with strong warnings about not installing it on a critical PC. We are now confident that our drivers are stable and safe to install on any Windows 10 or 11 computer. Our installer now includes creating an automatic restore point for users just in case.
For this release we would recommend that you have Windows File History active. Keeping your computer backed up and a recovery image is always a good practice when testing any new software but we believe this alpha release to be low risk to install. We have had no reports of serious driver problems from our early alpha testers and believe these drivers to be safe. They have all passed Microsoft’s rigorous driver stability testing suite and have been signed by Microsoft.
Playcast technology is very powerful, it can expose complete access and control of your computer to anyone on the internet via a browser. The beta release will include secure user account authentication and automation for warning users when they are sharing admin level access to their desktops publicly. The ability to do this is a feature of the product but part of the alpha process is collecting feedback from real users about how best to present and secure this capability. We recommend installing it in a Windows GUEST Account, as described below, as a major precaution against accidentally exposing your PC publicly. Again, the ability to share this way is a feature, we plan to automate control of it further, but for tech-savvy alpha testers we would love the feedback.
